MEET THE MAKER
Michael Canney (1923-1999)
One of the leading British constructivist painters, Michael Canney drew inspiration from the landscape and industry of his native Cornwall. He counted Patrick Heron, Roger Hilton and Peter Lanyon among his close friends, but unlike many of his peers Canney was an indigenous Cornishman. His distinctive geometric compositions and restrained colour palette capture the essence of this special place.
