ROY TURNER DURRANT
Roy Turner Durrant was born in Lavenham, Suffolk in 1925. He studied at Camberwell School of Art from 1948 to 1952 where he was influenced by tutors including Keith Vaughan, Michael Rothenstein and John Minton.
A member of the New English Art Club, from the late 1940s, he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and in numerous galleries in London. From the 1950s, his early figurative style began to change, becoming increasingly abstract as he found his own voice.
His lifelong motto (which he inscribed on the fly leaf of many a volume of his childhood library) was "ars longa, vita brevis" "art is never ending, life is short" which he may have first seen in the bell tower of Lavenham Church, and following his wish was also carved on his tombstone in Lavenham cemetery.
Roy Turner Durrant's work can be found in many public collections, both in the UK and internationally, including Kettles Yard in Cambridge.

I couldn’t resist their food baubles, they have lots of other really lovely old classic-style decorations too, and they came incredibly well packed.
